Developmental Therapy

The Power of Play

Developmental therapy is a specialized field of work that focuses on the  manner in which children from birth to five years of age learn and  develop. It is a discipline that takes a holistic look at child  development, that is, everything from physical growth to mental  functioning to personality development and so forth.

The hallmark of many developmental therapy activities is a focus on  skills development in the context of play. Play is the “language” of  children, so developmental therapy is based on the notion that children  can learn how to improve their functioning through the process of  playing.

advocacy & Professional development

Advocacy

Even before we are therapists, we are advocates. Child's Nature is interested in the success of students outside of the clinic. It is especially important for parents to be knowledgeable contributors of their child's IEP and 504 plans. Carrie Kerr is a trained advocate, attending dozens of IEP meetings a year alongside parents and their children. Call  us to discuss advocacy services.

Professional Development

We have presented at state, national and international conventions on various topics related to language development, disorders, and augmentative-alternative communication. As much as we love the big conventions, we are most happy when we can collaborate and provide specialized professional development to schools, daycares and families. Call us to plan a presentation for your organization.
